What does a noob-friendly Rust server actually promise?

Only that the owner chose to put a new-player word in the server name. It does not guarantee lower gather rates, spawn protection or a group cap. Check the server's own rules page and the Group column before you join.

Should I pick a server with a low group limit?

Yes, if you are learning. Solo, duo, trio and quad limits keep large clans out and reduce the chance of being overrun early. The Group column shows the advertised cap, but some servers leave it blank, so verify in-game or on the server's page.

How often do these servers wipe?

It varies. Many run a weekly or biweekly cycle, some monthly. The Last wipe and Next wipe columns show what we last recorded; if a date is missing, the server does not publish a schedule we can read.

Are these servers safe for a new player?

No server is safe in Rust, but these are more likely to have rules that help you learn. Still expect to lose gear and bases. Read the rules for spawn protection, kill-on-sight bans and offline raid limits before you commit time.
