What is the tutorial on a Rust server?

It is Facepunch's built-in new-player sequence. You spawn on a private island, learn gathering, crafting, building and cooking, then transfer to the main map. A server with the tag on keeps this sequence enabled for anyone who has not completed it. Rates, wipes and team limits are unchanged.

Is a tutorial server a good place to start Rust?

It removes the first hour of risk, because no other player can reach the island. After that you play the normal map under the server's usual rules, so check the max group size and gather rate before choosing one. A busy official server with the tutorial on may still be harsher than a quiet community server without it.

Why does this list change during the day?

Rows are ordered by the live player count taken at the last five-minute scan. Servers fill after work hours in their region and empty overnight, so positions move. A server that drops down the list has not been removed. Its own page keeps a graph of the history.

Do tutorial servers wipe on the same schedule as other servers?

The tutorial setting does not affect wiping. Servers here follow monthly, biweekly or weekly cycles, and Force wipe on the first Thursday of the month applies to all of them. The next wipe column shows an estimate from the last observed wipe and the stated cycle. Blueprints reset only if the server chooses to reset them.
